Recreational Equipment, Inc., commonly known as REI, is a “consumer co-op” retail concept offering recreational gear, sporting goods and clothing to serious and passionate enthusiasts.  With a focus on equipment for serious climbers, backpackers and mountaineering aficionados, an expanded offering for family campers, kayakers, cyclists and other outdoor devotees rounds out the merchandise mix.  Clothing from REI along with a carefully curated group of other brands is impressive.  An interesting factoid:  Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Mt. Everest, was hired as the first full-time employee of REI, and served as CEO during the 1960’s!  REI is the real deal.
